A complete system for managing dental clinics, patients, and treatments
DentalOS is a full-featured dental management platform built to streamline daily clinic operations. It centralizes patient records, visualizes treatments through an interactive odontogram, manages appointments with a calendar system, and supports communication through automated SMS notifications.

Software built for the daily workflow of modern dental clinics
DentalOS was designed to simplify how clinics manage patients, treatments, and appointments. Dentists and staff use the system to access patient records, document procedures through an interactive odontogram, and keep track of ongoing and completed treatments in a structured, reliable way.
The platform connects front-facing patient acquisition with internal clinic operations. Administrators can manage schedules, organize patient data, and automate communication through SMS notifications, creating a streamlined workflow from the first visit to long-term treatment tracking.

DentalOS Features
Patient Management System
Centralized patient records containing personal information, visit history, and treatment data. Each patient profile acts as a single source of truth, allowing dentists to quickly access past procedures, notes, and ongoing treatments without relying on manual records.

Interactive Odontogram
A visual representation of each patient’s dental state, allowing dentists to mark procedures directly on teeth. Treatments such as fillings, extractions, and crowns are tracked visually, making it easier to understand patient history and plan future work.
Appointment Scheduling
Built-in calendar system for managing appointments, tracking availability, and organizing daily clinic workflow. Staff can schedule visits, update appointment status, and maintain a clear overview of upcoming and completed sessions.

SMS Notifications & Reminders
Automated SMS notifications for appointment reminders and patient communication. This reduces missed appointments and keeps patients informed without requiring manual outreach from clinic staff.
Secure Access & Data Handling
The system ensures that patient data is securely tied to authenticated users. Sensitive medical information is protected and scoped appropriately, providing a solid foundation for reliable and safe data handling within the clinic environment.

Treatment History & Records
Every procedure performed is stored as part of a patient’s history. This creates a complete medical record, enabling better decision-making, long-term tracking, and improved patient care over time.
Engineering
Engineering Highlights
Secure Access & Data Integrity
DentalOS ensures that patient data is securely tied to authenticated users. Sensitive medical information is protected through controlled access and consistent data handling, forming a reliable foundation for clinical use.
Treatment & Workflow Modeling
Clinical workflows are structured around patients, appointments, and treatments. The system models procedures, visit history, and ongoing care, allowing dentists to track progress and maintain consistent treatment documentation.
Relational Data Model
Built on Prisma and PostgreSQL, the system connects patients, treatments, appointments, and users through a structured relational schema. This allows every action in the clinic to be traced, from scheduled visits to completed procedures.
Automated Patient Communication
Integrated SMS notifications using Twilio enable automated appointment reminders and patient communication, reducing missed visits and improving overall clinic efficiency.
Lessons learned
What this project taught me
Handling Sensitive Data
DentalOS required working with sensitive patient data, ensuring that medical records are handled securely and consistently. This highlighted the importance of structuring data access carefully even in simpler systems.
Modeling Clinical Workflows
Translating real dental procedures into a digital system required structuring patients, treatments, and appointments in a way that reflects how clinics actually operate. The challenge was making workflows intuitive while preserving accuracy and traceability.
Managing Complex Interfaces
Combining patient records, odontogram visuals, scheduling, and treatment data into a single interface required careful UI decisions. The goal was to keep the system powerful without overwhelming users during everyday clinical work.
SMS Integration
Implementing SMS notifications introduced real-world constraints such as reliability, timing, and user expectations. It highlighted the importance of integrating external services seamlessly into core application workflows.
